Hope Is What We Live For.
Our Story & Mission
After years of infertility and a miscarriage in 2010, Anne Mathay and her husband Noah were overjoyed to find out they were expecting a son, due in early December 2012. During an emergency ultrasound, scheduled due to decreased fetal movement, Anne was told that there was no longer a heartbeat, and her son would not be born alive. She was almost 33 weeks pregnant.

After twenty hours of labor, Henry “Hank” Shaffer Mathay was born on October 16, 2012, silent and still.

Upon discharge from the hospital, Anne was given some resources from the hospital. Searching for more, she started to investigate support groups, advocacy groups, and online help, desperate to find mothers just like her. The lack of support in the area was astounding, especially for such a populated area. Anne knew she had to do more.

What started as a fundraising team for The March of Dimes quickly turned into something bigger. Hank’s Hope incorporated into an official 501(c)3, whose mission is to provide resources and support to families who are affected by pregnancy loss and infant loss.

It is our hope that no family in greater Delaware area ever finds themselves without bereavement support when grieving a pregnancy loss or infant loss.

After all, hope is what we live for.
